Stat of the Day

North Carolina and Indiana combined for 93 points in the first half of their Sweet 16 matchup. That’s three more than Wisconsin and Pittsburgh combined for in their entire first round game. We just can’t stop mentioning that awful game that we promised to never speak of again.

It was a Good Friday for Notre Dame

I wanted to make sure to write this one before Paul tried to because he’s a pretty big Notre Dame homer and we want to be fair and bal--- EXCUSE ME WIL … ELITE 8, WOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Oh, you want a recap? Wisconsin was all, “Hey, we’re up three with less than 30 seconds left.” Then Demetrius Jackson was all, “LOL.” Then Bronson Koenig was all, “*BRICK*” Then Demetrius Jackson was all, “LOL thanks.”  And, boom. ND in the Elite 8 for the second straight year with wins over an average seed of 10.6. DOOOOON’T CAAAAAAARE. Bring on the Warriors!

…..this is why I tried to keep him away from this section…..

More one seeds destroyed their Sweet 16 opponent . . . how fun and unique

Virginia has an offense, which is scary. And North Carolina is just scary. But for the second straight night, both No. 1 seeds made their way into the Elite 8, meaning all four are still alive. In both cases Friday, Virginia and North Carolina jumped out to big leads fairly early and essentially coasted to wins against Iowa State and Indiana, respectively. Those are two really good teams that were just dumped off on the side of the road. A Virginia/Carolina Final Four matchup is not a bad thing.

Orange you glad the top seeds in your region lost before you played them?

Syracuse probably didn’t deserve to be in the tournament field, but there it was, and still is, in the Elite 8. The Orange scrapped out a win against Gonzaga despite a horrocious call by a referee who thought he had the right angle from 50 feet away. If you ever wondered if the NCAA was completely toothless, Syracuse in the Elite 8 is your undeniable proof.

Warriors beat Mavs in preview of series that Mavs have no shot at winning

Golden State won its 65th game, and now needs to finish the season 8-2 to break the Bulls’ record. This one came against the Mavericks, who are in a fight for the No. 8 seed in the West, and now 30 games behind the Warriors. For reference, Brooklyn is 30 ½ games out of first in the East, and eliminated from the playoffs in 14th place. More ridiculous yet? The Lakers are 50 games behind the Warriors. That’s a really good season for most teams. And the Lakers BEAT THE WARRIORS.

Pistons win, increase lead on Chicago

Speaking of NBA Playoffs, with a win last night the Pistons are now two games ahead of the Bulls for the final spot in the East, and tied for seventh with Indiana (which has two games in hand). This is extra fun, because the Cavs are a vulnerable No. 1 seed. Not because they aren’t talented, but because there’s a chance LeBron murders all of his teammates by Game 3 . . . and then moves to Miami.

Maybe we should start paying attention to the Capitals

Speaking of absurd league leaders, the Washington Capitals are quietly putting together a ridiculous season in the NHL, as they sit at 111 points, have clinched the Eastern Conference and have a magic number of 1 when it comes to wrapping up home ice advantage throughout the playoffs, 73 games into an 82-game season. They have a goal-differential of 62, which is 30 goals better than the Lightning, who are second.

If the U.S. men’s national team plays a soccer match on a network you can only get in standard definition with Spanish-speaking announcers, it shouldn’t lose said match. Well … yeah. A 2-0 loss against Guatemala isn’t going to help the momentum building for Jurgen Klinsmann’s doubters, a group growing by the day.

Chris Christie just wanted to watch the Notre Dame game while enjoying his favorite snack in peace.

Chest bumps are all about leverage, and not being a super unathletic dude who sits at the end of the bench.
