A quick bit of housekeeping
First, thanks for reading this. We’ve gotten really great responses so far and we are very excited about that. Second, in an effort to grow we’re going to start offering rewards for forwarding this email and encouraging more people to sign up. They’ll be in the form of shoutouts, picking tweets/vines, picking topics, etc. We’ll have more info on that in Sunday morning’s email.
Stat of the Day
LeBron James shot 81% (13-16) last night in Cleveland’s loss to Brooklyn. His teammates combined to shoot 36% (26-73)
Rocked like a Hurricane
Villanova put up the best performance in terms of offensive efficiency in the last five seasons in their Sweet 16 win over Miami. The Wildcats averaged 1.57 points per possession. Here is that number explained. It’s as if they shot a three pointer every single time they were on offense, and made half of them. If they had 1.57 points per possession at a medium paced game (read: each team gets the ball an exactly average amount of times) then they would have scored 110 points. The team ranked exactly in the middle of points per possession this year average 1.02. In an average paced game, they’d score 71 points. We hope we have fully explained how remarkable 1.57 points per possession is.
Boomer Sooner
Leading scorer Buddy Hield wasn’t at his best and Oklahoma still put away Texas A&M with ease. A&M shot 34% from the floor, 21% from three-point range and 54% at the free throw line. Those numbers are extraordinarily poor. Oklahoma moves on the the Elite 8 to face Oregon, a game which they will have a good shot to win, because they will have the best player on the court.
Perry Ellis’ college career will never end
For a while in the first half of Thursday night’s game, Maryland looked like a team that entered the season as a favorite to win a national championship. But as the game wore on, Kansas proved to be that team, and Maryland proved to be the same flawed squad we had watched all season. Kansas vs. Villanova is going to be so, so, so, so, so, so, so good.
Quack!
Oregon defended the honor of the Pac 12, running away from Duke and earning a spot in the Elite 8. It’s possible -- and I know this is going to sound crazy -- but it’s possible that a conference can be severely overrated, and it’s best team could still be really good (Hey, Alabama!). Oregon vs. Oklahoma is going to be only slightly less good than Kansas vs. Villanova.
Red Wings nearly blow four goal lead, pick up much needed win
The headline explains it, really. The Red Wings led Montreal 4-0 after two periods and let the lead slip to 4-3 with eight minutes left in the game. They held on to win and got two huge points, especially with Philadelphia beating Colorado. Detroit is now up two points on Philly with the Flyers having played two fewer games. Perhaps even more significant, the Red Wings are now only one point behind Boston for 3rd in the Atlantic Division, which would guarantee them a playoff spot.

No matter how ugly these scoreboards look in your email, they’ll never be as ugly as Kevin Durant’s shoes. And we take pride in that.

Tweet of the Day
One of these guys does pretty questionable stuff and is extremely disliked by scores of people, and the other is Ted Cruz. (but holy crap Grayson Allen could be Ted Cruz’s son)
Vine Video of the Day
The Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Brooklyn Nets, who are not good, and LeBron James is not having a good time.
I heard a former Heisman-winning quarterback with a disappointing pro career signed with the Browns!
Yeah, but it was Robert Griffin III, not Tim Tebow.
