Stat of the Day
The Spurs have won 36 home games to start this season. The Philadelphia 76ers have won 36 home games since Feb. 9, 2013.
Alex Rodriguez announces his retirement in the most Alex Rodriguez way
A new trend with aging superstar athletes is for them to announce their retirement a year ahead of the time in which they intend to retire, followed by an extended farewell tour of sorts. During these tours the athletes are adorned with gifts and fans get to show their appreciation for all-time greats. Well, not to be one-upped, Alex Rodriguez has announced he will retire . . . after the 2017 season. He did sort of walk back those comments later in the day, but the general baseball population has probably learned to take what A-Rod says with a grain of salt. Whether he follows through or not, making the original statement is the most Alex Rodriguez thing possible, and is evidence to further your opinion on him, bad or good.
Warriors continue being much better than teams not named the Spurs
Golden State did that thing again where it looks like it might be in a close game for a while, then it kind chokes the life out of a team and winds up winning by 16. The Clippers seem to run into this scenario often. The Warriors are now 64-7, so by our math, that means a 9-2 finish sets the record, and an 8-3 finish ties it. Want more math? Going 9-2 would give the Warriors a .818 win percentage to close out the year, while 8-3 would be .727. Their current win percentage is .901, so there’s a decent chance this happens.
Spurs continue being historically great and second in their conference
The Spurs dump-trucked the Heat last night. The Spurs are now 36-0 at home this season, good for 2nd on the all-time list. And it was also the 45th straight home win for the Spurs dating back to last season, which is good for 2nd place on the all-time list of home winning streaks, but only the 2nd longest active home winning streak in the NBA, because, you know, the Warriors.
Pistons win, overtake Bulls for eighth playoff spot
The Pistons and Bulls came into the night nearly deadlocked for the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, with Chicago ahead by a single tenth of a percentage point. Detroit beat Orlando and the Bulls suffered a loss to the lowly Knicks, flip-flopping the two teams. Detroit is now up two games in the win column, but the Bulls have played two fewer games overall.
NFL creates new rules, still not sure what a catch is
The NFL Owners Meetings have been going on the last few days and generally this is a time for all the head honchos in the league to meet and discuss boring operational garbage. What the public usually takes from the event are the rule changes. The most notable of this year’s changes is that touchbacks will be moved to the 25 yard line, in an attempt to further reduce kickoff returns, thought to be the most dangerous NFL play. Other rules were adopted on both an interim and full-time basis: 31 yard extra points, new horse-collar rules and personal foul ejection policies included.

Tweet of the Day
We did not know retirement morphed you into a completely different human being. Maybe this is why A-Rod decided to walk back his retirement comments.
Quick, somebody warn Peyton Manning.
