Stat of the Day

Friday night was the first time in NCAA Tournament history that a 13, 14, and 15 seed all won on the same night. (Insert line about a busted bracket)

Something something MSU

We don’t like hyperbole here at the greatest sports newsletter in the history of mankind, but Middle Tennessee State beat Michigan State Friday in the biggest upset in the history of the tournament. There have been bigger spreads, but never has a team more people figured was going to win lost to a seed this low. If you didn’t pick MSU to win it all, you’re in good shape, no matter what the rest of your bracket looks like. Because everyone is screwed.

California Dud

Freshman All-American Jaylen Brown had a first and last tournament game to forget. The story of the night, though, was the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors locking down the first tournament win in school history. I really don’t know a ton about Hawaii or how they were able to win. We’ll just chalk it up to a general good spirit associated with getting to live and go to college in Hawaii.

West Virginia stone cold stunned

Stephen F. Austin was underseeded at 14, but on Friday, it made West Virginia look like it had never run an offensive set (you know, there’s a chance West Virginia has never run an offensive set now that we think about it).

The worst game in the tournament was played last night

Wisconsin beat Pitt 47-43. And we’re not going to link to it. And nobody is going to talk about this game ever again. Seriously, we’re not even linking to a game story.

In other action …

Northern Iowa hit a shot that will be shown on every NCAA Tournament promo for the rest of time to knock off Texas. … Michigan managed to score this time, but couldn’t hold onto a 12-point second-half lead against Notre Dame. … JUST LAY IT IN, CINCINNATI!

The Warriors are doing the damn thing

It almost seems like we’re just delaying the inevitable when it comes to the Golden State Warriors and the ‘96 Bulls’ record. The Warriors won impressively in Dallas last night, bringing their chance at reaching 73 wins to 50% according to ESPN’s BPI. The 62-6 Warriors need to go 11-3 in their final 14 to beat the Bulls’ mark. That’s a win percentage 12 points lower than the one they’ve maintained for 68 games.

Tweet of the Day

Friday night was not a nice time for Bob Huggins. His team was upset by a 14 seed and it wasn’t a particularly close game. I wonder how the coach would handle his team’s season coming to a heartbreaking and shocking end. Would he be proud? Disappointed but pleased with the season as a whole? Or would he absolutely ice his team in his postgame presser?

Did Tim Tebow get signed today?

No, unfortunately Tim Tebow remains a free agent. We’re just as surprised as you.
