April 25, 2016: The Game Managers watched too much TV on Sunday

Quote of the day

About last night . . .

Please don’t be hurt, Steph Curry

The Warriors took a 3-1 lead on the Rockets, but that seemed rather insignificant when Steph Curry limped out of the building with what is initially being called a sprained right knee. Curry slipped on sweat as the first half ended, falling awkwardly and immediately grabbing his knee. He tried to warm up for the second half, but couldn’t go. He’ll have the most anticipated MRI we can remember today, and the hope is that is actually just a sprain and not something worse. Without Curry, the Warriors are still a great basketball team, and will no doubt beat the Rockets. Heck, they may even beat the Clippers. But the Spurs and Thunder are another story.

Grizzlies head off to hibernate and get healthy

We are sad to say goodbye to the 2015-2016 iteration of the Memphis Grizzlies. Your cast of characters makes a Tarantino movie look like Michael Bay wrote it and the way your team plays would make a real grizzly bear embarrassed at its comparatively meager tenacity. This season has left us with many questions and few answers. We can only wonder what external forces caused your dynamite-filled roster to wilt with injury like a lost tulip under a desert sun. We can only regret we did not get to see that team made of gunpowder lit ablaze by a spark from an off-putting Tim Duncan elbow. And we can only hope, pray and plea that next year you will return, fists up, and ready to fucking pummel the shit out of anybody who even looks at you wrong.

Florida weather is more appropriate for golf anyway

The Florida Panthers might have been the biggest surprise of the NHL season, but their involvement in it didn’t last as long as they had hoped. The New York Islanders won their first playoff series since 1993, three years before that gut without any money schemed his way into buying the team. It’s been a long, long time coming. They’ll take on Tampa Bay in the next round. As for the Panthers, well, at least you don’t have to go far to find a decent tee time.

Old Stars knock out new Stars

Really, Dallas, it wasn’t enough for your franchise to abandon the state of Minnesota in 1993? You just haaaad to knock them out of this year’s playoffs, didn’t you? DIDN’T YOU?! You selfish jerks should be ashamed of yourselves. Yes, I realize this was 23 years ago and nobody on your team was even a teenager at that point, but that is beside the point. This is a matter of principle! Ok, I didn’t get to watch much of this series, but Dallas has been one of the best teams all season. Fingers crossed Chicago wins game 7 tonight so we can see them take on the Stars.

Ovechkin vs. Crosby ! ! !

Pittsburgh finished off the New York Rangers on Saturday and the Capitals delivered the same fate to Philadelphia yesterday, meaning that we get another round of Ovechkin vs. Crosby. It’s a bit of an overblown storyline because sort of like opposing pitchers or quarterbacks, these two won’t directly face each other a ton. But still, we get two of the best players in the world and two of the best teams in the world for what we can only hope is a long series with 100 goals scored each game.

Most entertaining sweep ever?

In what was the first playoff experience for most of the players on the roster, the Pistons were swept by the Cavaliers. But for three of the four games, Detroit was right there, which has to give it some confidence heading into next season. Meanwhile, for Cleveland, it had to be great to see a series where Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love were as much of the reason they won at times as LeBron James. If nothing else, it will stop the subtweeting for a while.

Atlanta and Boston are probably going to need 7 games

Isaiah Thomas was awesome again for Boston as the Celtics tied up their series with Atlanta. After four games, there appears to be no discernible differences between the two teams, which most likely means they’ll just keep punching each other really hard in the face until the series has to end for timing purposes. This is all good news for Cleveland, as they await the winner of this series and will be resting as long as these two are playing.

Things to read today

An article about media coverage of a media-created event seems a little bit like overkill . . . but there are actually some interesting tidbits in there, as well as information on broadcast lineups and whether or not the draft will be spoiler-free on Twitter.

This is exactly what it says it is. SB Nation compiled a bunch of mock drafts and made the data easy to digest in color coded pie charts. And they update it, so it’s a good place to check in on as we progress towards Thursday night.

The best of the rest

A cool thing happened in a baseball game that went to extra innings. This is a pitcher pinch-hitting. He got a hit.

And this is a pitcher who was brought in the pinch run for the other pitcher and then play left field after Arizona tied the score!
