May 2, 2016: The Game Managers will not spoil Game of Thrones, but we REALLY want to talk about it

Quote of the day

“We’re gonna win the league!” -- Leicester City fans during their team’s match against Manchester United Sunday morning. They didn’t win the league, but are now one point closer after a draw. Tottenham needs a win against Chelsea today to stay alive, or the Foxes can wrap things up with a win Saturday at home against Everton.

About last night . . .

Toronto Raptors win first series since 2001

The Raptors tried. They really, really tried to give away game 7, but they failed by succeeding. They beat Indiana 80-something to 80-something in a game that just wasn’t any fun to watch. In a previous email we (Paul) mentioned that this series would not be interesting because Toronto would get through Indiana with ease. Now we (Paul) may have been wrong about the specific details, but we (Wil) think our (Paul’s) prediction that this would not be an interesting series was proved correct. A team scored 90 or less in 6 of the 7 games and by tomorrow we will all have forgotten everything about this series, despite it going 7 games. Not interesting.

One step closer to Cavs vs. Heat

Game 7 between Miami and Charlotte was really close and then it wasn’t. The Heat ended up winning by 33 and move on to face Toronto. Miami saved the rest of the Eastern Conference playoffs from being a boring inevitability as it feels like they are the only team that can give Cleveland a run for their money and even if they can’t, the storylines in that series will keep us afloat throughout. Game one of Toronto and Miami is Tuesday night.

Hey, the Warriors are still pretty dang good

Steph Curry missed game one is likely out for game two and that sucks, but it appears the dream scenario of Golden State and San Antonio in the Western Conference Finals is still a good bet (The Spurs dismantled OKC in game one on Saturday) as the Warriors took down Portland on Sunday 118-106. And the game wasn’t really as competitive as the final score indicates. The Warriors led by ~20 throughout. Let’s, as objective fans with no team in the fight, hope the Warriors can keep moving in a positive direction and gradually groove Steph back in and the Spurs do their thing and we get two see two historically great teams go at it in the next round. Game two for Golden State and Portland is tomorrow night, while OKC and San Antonio play again tonight.

Blues even series with Stars

David Backes -- who will forever have our heart thanks to the “Beat Up All the Canadians” tour he went on prior to the 2010 Olympics -- scored in overtime to pull the Blues even in their series against the Stars, and give his team home-ice advantage. Expect this series to go the distance, and don’t be surprised if all seven games wind up decided by a goal or less.

Sharks score late, hold home ice

Joe Pavelski -- not to be confused with Joe Pawvelski, the black cat that ran onto the ice before Game 1 (really, they named it that) -- broke a 2-all tie late in the third period to give the Sharks a Game 2 win and a 2-0 lead in the series. San Jose is the only team in the conference semis to hold a 2-0 lead, but Nashville is plenty resilient, and we wouldn’t be surprised if it headed back to San Jose 2-2.

Things to read today

Draft grades here, getcha draft grades here

In the same way mock drafts dominate the pre-draft process, draft grades dominate the post-draft process. The two have a lot in common. They’re both completely meaningless and hit at what feels like a 10% accuracy rate . . . and . . . people absolutely love them. So, here are Pro Football Focus’s draft grades for every team. Here is SB Nation’s piece of who “won” the draft. And we’ll throw in ESPN and their simple “thumbs up” “thumbs down” bit.

Now, remember, we won’t know the real grades on these drafts for a few years . . . but that’s lame as shit and nobody wants to talk about three-years-from-now hypotheticals. The draft was this weekend and these grades are important, dammit!

The best of the rest

NASCAR was in Talladega yesterday and that’s good . . . Roll Tide

It was raining free french fries at the Warriors game. Draymond Green was the big winner.

You may be confused as to why an MLB manager is wearing an outfit like this . . .

So, the ‘Running Man Challenge’ is an internet thing that’s really close to becoming super popular. It’s like the Harlem Shake or Dabbing where it starts as a small, funny thing and then it gets too popular too fast and we all end up resenting it. So enjoy these before that happens.
